Rear Admiral M Abu Ashraf (TAS), BSP, ncc, psc, BN
Rear Admiral M Abu Ashraf joined Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet on 15 October 1982. He attended basic naval training as Midshipman in Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK. On successful completion of training, he was commissioned in the Executive Branch in Bangladesh Navy on 15 April 1985.
Rear Admiral Ashraf attended various professional courses both at home and abroad. The courses include International Sub Lt Course (ISLC) in UK, Ship’s Officer Diving Course in Bangladesh, Torpedo Anti-Submarine (TAS) Specialization Course in India, Command and Staff Courses from DSCSC Mirpur, Bangladesh and DSCSC, Wellington, India and Naval Command College Course from Naval War College, Newport, USA. He is a recipient of Distinguished Service Medal (BSP).
During his long and illustrious career in the Navy, Rear Admiral Ashraf successfully commanded a Gunboat, two Mine Sweepers and two Frigates of BN. He also commanded ‘School of Maritime Warfare and Tactics (SMWT)’ and BNS ULKA. He performed the Duties of Staff Officer, Deputy Director and Director of NHQ (Planning Directorate) and Secretary to CNS. He participated in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mozambique, Rwanda and Lebanon.
Rear Admiral Ashraf joined his present billet as Commander Chittagong Naval Area on 12 December 2016. Prior to joining present billet he was holding the appointment of 'Commodore Naval Aviation'.
Rear Admiral Ashraf hails from the district of Gazipur. He is married to Begum Laila Farzana and has a closely-knit family of two sons. He loves to pass his leisure in reading various periodicals and magazines.
