Commodore Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, (N), NPP, ndc, ncc, psc, BN
Commodore Mohammad Nazmul Hassan joined as Commodore Naval Aviation on 09 January 2018. In December 2017, he completed National Defence Course in Bangladesh.
Commodore Nazmul Joined Bangladesh Navy as a cadet in January 1984 and was commissioned in the Executive branch on 1st July 1986. He completed his Midshipman and Ag S Lt training from Britannia Royal Naval College, UK. A specialist in Navigation, Commodore Nazmul did his long Navigation course from Cochin, India in 1993. As a navigator, he brought BNS S R AMIN from UK to Bangladesh. He is a distinguished graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and Naval War College, USA. He also attended Naval Command Course at US Naval War College. His academic qualifications include Bachelor of Science degree from Chittagong University and Masters in Defence Studies from National University, Bangladesh. Currently he is undergoing M Phil Programme under BUP.
Commodore Nazmul had a blend of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments throughout his career. He worked as Director Naval Operations and Director Naval Intelligence at NHQ. He also served 3 years long tenure as the Staff Officer Operations to COMCHIT. As a young Lieutenant, he was appointed as ADC to Chief of the Naval Staff. His instructional career started as the Naval DS at Bangladesh Military Academy. He later conducted JSC at BNA both as a Directing Staff and a Director. He served as a DS in DSCSC Mirpur for 3 years. In August 2013, he was appointed as the Commandant of Bangladesh Naval Academy, where he was promoted to his present rank. In the Academy he planned the transition of Naval officers training from 2 to 4 years.
He commanded four warships of Bangladesh Navy. His First Command was BNS BISHKHALI, subsequently he commanded BN ships TISTA and MADHUMATI. He was also the Commanding Officer of the training frigate, BNS UMAR FAROOQ. Finally, he commanded Bangladesh Navy’s special force SWADS in 2015.
During his service tenure, he visited many countries which include India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, France, Croatia, UK and USA. He took part in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in former Yugoslavia (Croatia/Montenegro) in the year 2002.
Commodore Nazmul is happily married to Begum Nadia Sultana. They are blessed with a son and a daughter.
