Commodore Muhammad SHAFIUL AZAM, (E), NUP, ndc, psc BN

Commodore Muhammad SHAFIUL AZAM, (E), NUP, ndc, psc BN, took over the duties of the Commodore Superintendent Dockyard (CSD) on 08 August 2015. Born in 14 October 1964, he joined Bangladesh Navy on 15 October 1982. Commodore AZAM was commissioned in the Engineering branch of Bangladesh Navy on 15 April 1985. He did his graduation from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering discipline and obtained a First Class and First position. Later he specialized in Marine Engineering from the Royal Naval Engineering College and also obtained a First Class there. He completed his first Staff Course from the Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and later did his second staff course, ie Admirals Staff Course, in the Military Staff College of Germany (Fürungsakademie der Budeswehr). He is also a graduate of the National Defence College, Mirpur of Bnagladesh. He obtained a First Class in Masters of Defence Study (MDS) from the National University of Bangladesh and also a First Class in Masters of Strategic and Development Studies (MSDS) from the Bangladesh University of Professionals.

He served onboard various ships and craft of Bangladesh Navy as the Engineer Officer. He also served as the General Manager (Production) of BN Dockyard, the General Manger (Planning) of the Khulna Shipyard. He was a Staff Officer of the Engineering Directorate at the Naval Headquarters and later was also appointed as the Director of Naval Engineering. He was an instructor in the Engineering School of Bangladesh Navy. He was the Director of Bangladesh Navy Junior Staff Course at the Bangladesh Naval Academy. Later he joined as the Directing Staff in the Defence Services Command and Staff College at Mirpur.

In recognition to his contribution during peace time Commodore AZAM was awarded with Peace Time Medal, ‘Nou Utkorsho Podok (NUP)’ in 2013 by the Government of Bangladesh. He served in UN Mission in Ivory Coast as Chief of Civil Military Coordination (Chief CIMCORD). He visited several countries across the globe. Commodore AZAM is married to Doctor REJINA AZAM, a Radiologist by profession, and father of a daughter and a son; both of them are students. His hobby includes reading, travelling, swimming and playing volleyball.
