Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, OSP, NPP, rcds, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD joined Bangladesh Navy on 27 January, 1985. After initial training, he did his Officer's Basic Training with the Royal Malaysian Navy as the first Bangladeshi officer to do so. He was commissioned into the Executive Branch on 1 July, 1987. He assumed the duties of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at the Naval Headquarters on 01 January 2025. In this capacity, he is instrumental in planning and conducting naval operations across surface, subsurface and air domains, overseeing strategic deployment of naval assets and providing key counsel to the Chief of Naval Staff. The Admiral played a pivotal role in coordinating "In Aid to Civil Power" operations, ensuring effective naval support to civil administration during national requirements. Notably, under his operational guidance, Bangladesh Navy contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the 13th National Parliament Election 2026 assisting the government in maintaining law and order to ensure a free, fair and neutral electoral process. In addition to his naval duties, he holds the position of Chairman of North Indian Ocean Hydrographic Commission (NIOHC) and National Hydrographic Committee of Bangladesh.

The Admiral's last appointment was Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel) where he joined on 10 Sep 2025. There he oversaw the training, discipline and welfare for all personnel across ships and naval establishments. Furthermore, in his glorious naval career, he served as Area Commander of two naval areas namely Dhaka and Khulna Naval Area and commanded six warships including flagship BNS KHALID BIN WALID. The Admiral also held key appointments of Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University, Chairman of Mongla Port Authority and undertook the vital responsibilities of Naval Secretary, Director of Naval Plans, Director of Submarine, Director of Naval Aviation and Director of Signals at the Naval Headquarters.

He is an alumnus of the UK Royal College of Defence Studies, US Naval Postgraduate School, French Inter Forces War College, King's College London, National Defence College and Defence Services Command and Staff College. Academically, he holds 4 master's degrees namely in War Studies, English Literature, International Relations and Business Administration respectively. The Admiral earned his M.Phil in "Maritime Governance: Options for Bangladesh" from Bangladesh University of Professionals and he was conferred with his distinguished PhD in "Maritime Domain Awareness: Bangladesh Perspective" under the department of International Relations of Jahangirnagar University.

Admiral Mohammad Musa has earned numerous accolades for his distinguished service. He received the 'National Standard Award' as Commanding Officer of the flagship and Area Commander of Khulna Naval Area for exceptional contributions at both operational and national levels. He was also honoured with peace time awards of 'Oshamanno Seba Padak' (Excellence in Service Award), 'Nou Parodorshita Padak' (Naval Proficiency Award) and 'National Integrity Award'. Additionally, he has received the Chief of Naval Staff's Commendation four times for his extraordinary service to Bangladesh Navy.

As a well sought-after speaker, Admiral Musa has delivered lectures on the ocean economy, maritime security and sustainable ocean governance at various prestigious international institutions such as National Maritime Foundation (New Delhi), Gujarat National Law University, National Institute of Oceanography (India), National Ocean Technology Centre (China), Maldives National University, Yokohama City University and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. He is a regular keynote speaker and resource person at various national institutions such as National Defence College (NDC), Armed Forces War College, Defence Services Command and Staff College and many other national and international maritime institutions of home and abroad. In 2024, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the UK Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at Oxford University, UK where he presented a keynote paper titled "Sustainable Ocean Economy: Bangladesh's Journey on the Roadmap to a Blue Economy."
